Beta Chicago: Stealth

Actual beta screenshots

Must have been a vastly different cut-scene. Here Joanna is in the middle of Chicago, first called "Japan", then called "Chinatown", and finally "Chicago". That's why the rain was put there in the first place.

Joanna started off the mission witha weapon, which looks to be a shotgun. This level must have been majorly reconstructed, with the beta version having dataDyne forces infiltrate Chicage while Joanna makes her way into the G5 building.

Here is she with a falcon to start the level. Eventually, there was no gun.

Here's one of those dataDyne shock troopers. The MagSec is also unavailable in the final version. dataDyne is carrying out a meeting in the G5 building, so shock troopers would make sense, although I can understand the change.

No dumpster and apparently no bombspy.

The civilians were different. This one looks like a civilian from Goldeneye. They switched the civilians to look like FBI agents to make the mission harder. There probably were no FBI agents in this version, although the taxi is still there.

The cut-scene, if ended prematurely, may have left Joanna right at this cop car from the cut-scene. I suspect a different starting point.

A crate in the style of the Area 51 crate rather than a bin.

Here is another shot with yet another different civilian, this time one from the Extraction level. Eventually, they all had trench coats.

The ending is almost the same, except there is a dataDyne Guard watching in the shadows. I'd assume, then, that no diversion had to be created, and she sneaked in?

Incoming transmission from 2000…

I built this site when I was 12, with some online friends. We took Perfect Dark very seriously.

Restored for nostalgia. Some links are dead. The enthusiasm remains.

Please don’t enter the competitions. February 2000 has been and gone.
