Into the Dark

IGN64's short Q and A session with the Perfect Dark team.

January 13, 2000

Following is a brief interview with the Perfect Dark team about the game. Also, be sure to scroll down past the QA session for some very juicy details of things to come.

Q: How does Perfect Dark differ from GoldenEye? How does it improve upon the technology in GoldenEye?

A: With Perfect Dark, we took all of the elements from GoldenEye that we liked, improved them and added even more. We want this game to be it's own property, and not a sequel. Overall, we have improved animations, graphics, sound, artificial intelligence and design. The mission structure and story line also do a great job of making the player feel like they are part of the Perfect Dark universe.

Q: What are some of the enemies you encounter in the game?

A: The enemies are without a doubt some of the most intelligent ever seen in a game. They will assess threats, work as a team and communicate with each other to always keep the player wondering what is around the next corner. How many levels are in the game?

Perfect Dark is considerably bigger than GoldenEye. It features 17 one-player levels that range from a skyscraper in Chicago to a alien crash site at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Plus, there will be multiple

Perfect Dark Q and A

multi-player levels.

Q: What is new about this game in regards to the multi-player options?

A: There are a number of new multi-player arenas that have been designed specifically for up to four players. In addition to these, we have included a few of the multi-player levels from GoldenEye. This will allow players to have familiarity with the game and also lets us add a number of features to Perfect Dark that we were not able to squeeze into GoldenEye. In the multi-player game, the player has the option of going up against human opponents or computer-controlled characters called "Simulants." Players can also choose to play against a combination of both human opponents and Simulants. In this scenario there can be up to 8 characters in total battling it out in a multi-player arena.

Q: How many modes of play will there be in Perfect Dark?

A: There is a single player game and a multi-player game. There are also a number of variants on the multi-player aspect.

Q: Expectations for this game are very high, how will Perfect Dark live up to the hype?

A: The key is to simply come up with a fresh and exciting game experience. The world of Joanna Dark is an entirely new one that has unlimited potential and has allowed us a great deal of freedom in design. This gives us the ability to put in the elements that we think will make for the best possible game play. On top of all this, the narrative and characters that we have created for Perfect Dark truly draw the player into the story line.

Special thanks to IGN64.

Incoming transmission from 2000…

I built this site when I was 12, with some online friends. We took Perfect Dark very seriously.

Restored for nostalgia. Some links are dead. The enthusiasm remains.

Please don’t enter the competitions. February 2000 has been and gone.
