Perfect Dark ICQ Skin! March 31 - Updated
by Matt
@ 2:53 EST
I just made this great new Perfect Dark skin for ICQPlus! The base of the skin was made by Kript. I added a bunch more pics and spiced it up Perfect Dark style. This is NOT the same Perfect Dark ICQ skin that Perfectly Dark has.
Here are the steps to get it: 1. If you don't have ICQPlus download it here. The download is incredibly fast. 2. Now click here to get the Perfect Dark ICQ skin. Download time is about 5 seconds on a 28.8kps modem. 3. Once both is downloaded and ICQPlus is set up (or just the Perfect Dark ICQ Skin if you already have ICQPlus) click on the ICQ BUTTON to bring up the Online/Offline list. Then click on the MAIN MENU button, click on the '+' sign that says 'Plus' beside it, click on IMPORT and find the Perfect Dark ICQ skin on your computer and it should automatically bring it up.
This skin is great! If you don't like it then e-mail me and complain, but I don't think that'll happen.
New Dr. Caroll March 31 - Updated
by Matt
@ 2:27 EST
I just got my Nintendo Power with new Perfect Dark pictures including this one with Dr. Caroll. He's changed alot since I last saw him. I'll also get walkthrough for the first few missions in Perfect Dark. I'll complete all the missions when the game comes out.
All though I am not posting Q & A's on the site I will answer any questions you might have that is PD related or otherwise through e-mail. So send them in to Matt@datadynehq.com!
Wanna go to E3? March 30 - Updated
by Tweek
@ 5:47 EST
If anyone out there wants to go to E3 2000 on behalf of dataDyne HQ to gather information on Perfect Dark, please email me. You must be sane and over the age of eighteen. We'll give you free tickets to the Expo, but everything else is you're own responsibility.
Email me, Tweek, with "E3 2000" in the subject line and I'll try to organise it. We may have the chance to send a couple of people, but please note that nothing is definite at the moment.
Alot of people have asked me how much gore/violence will be in Perfect Dark. Well, lets just say about as much as Turok: Rage Wars. Blood on the walls, floor, body. No guts or green stomach fluids that spray all over the place. Don't worry parents, Rare has included an option called "Paintball mode" where the guys don't bleed, just splatters of paint appear on their body.
That's it for any kind of news today, maybe. Check out the forums anyway.
No great Perfect Dark news this week so far. IGN64 continues to receive stacks of letters about the TWINE vs Perfect Dark debate. If you wanna read them and find out why monkeys are evil click here. Another Perfect Dark related site found, carringtoninstitute.com is again a Nintendo made PD site. Why? Why all the sites!?! Datadyne.com, now this one? Do they really need all that publicity? Oh well.
I finished the weapons poll. Pretty interesting results. Thanks to everyone who wrote in. It'll be up as soon as Tweek or Tom come back from the dead, along with all that site update stuff I promised like, weapons update, multiplayer update, etc.
Perfect Dark in Nevada! March 28 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:12 EST
The IGN64 crew recently visited a PD party in Las Vegas, Nevada where they were treated with Joanna and her skin tight leather suit with a nice handful of PD babes beside her. Although there is no new Perfect Dark news game-wise it did make Joanna look more then a butch, short-hair woman to a sexy, slick, undercover spy. Check out pics and what not here.
Weekend Recap March 27 - Updated
by Matt
@ 10:13 EST
I was once again busy on the weekend so no updates. IGN64 attended the March 25 party at Rio Hotel & Casino to check out the new playable version of Perfect Dark. No updates as of yet on IGN64.com but expect Matt and/or Aaron busily typing away at IGN headquarters. PDHQ got the latest Nintendo Power issue - which I have yet to received - which contains information about the mission objectives for the first 3 missions. Check it out.
Perfect Dark Wallpaper March 25 - Updated

N64 Shooters has created a great PD wallpaper that you have to check out.
TWINE Exposed! March 24 - Updated
by Matt
@ 8:31 EST
Well the new info IGN64 was offering was not about Perfect Dark, it's about the new Bond first-person shooter which EA and the Turok people are creating that looks like a close competitor to Goldeneye. Check it out!
Fan Art Winner! March 24 - Updated
by Tweek
@ 2:47 EST
The votes have been counted... Sean Schliefer and Dawn Moore are the outright winners of the fan art contest as voted by you. Some people have been confused about how their art is listed under the names of two artists. Well, quite simply, the art submitted by Sean and Dawn was art that they had both done together. How they decide who wins the Prima Strategy guide, however, is their responsibility (heh heh).
Next month we'll be holding a similar fan art contest, so send your art to me.
I'm back. I've been gone for about 3 days for unknown... reasons. Anyways IGN64 hints about an upcoming extravaganza about the most anticipated N64 game this year. Although they do not say what the game is they promise info, screens, and more on late Thursday/early Friday, hopfully we'll get some NEW Perfect Dark info. The game might not be Perfect Dark but I sure hope so.
Half-Life vs. Goldeneye March 20 - Updated
by Matt
@ 10:26 EST
All though the debate about Half-Life and Goldeneye will virtually never end a talented team of programmers have created somewhat of a truce between the two. They have created a modification for Half-Life. A near perfect conversion of the 64-bit classic has finally been released in beta form for Half-Life owners. Same weapons, same maps, same game modes (Licensed to Kill, etc.), new and incredibly detailed textures and weapons, new and old characters, and 24 player deathmatches. Check it out here.
dataDyne Corp Security Breach March 18 - Updated
by Tweek
@ 4:46 EST
Security was compromised at the North American DATADYNE headquarters recently with a large number of casualties. The suspect is female, approximately 5'8" with closely-cropped brown hair… (sounds a bit like Joanna Dark, doesn't it?)
An anonymous post in the internet newsgroups provided IGN64 with access to a "top-secret" dataDyne security page on the datadyne.com website which tells of a security breach at the dataDyne HQ complex. A correct password and login allows you to access this page through the "restricted area" section of the site, but we have the URL here for you anyway. The top-secret security page even contains security tape footage of the single intruder… but I never knew flying cars even existed.

Nintendorks PD Update Part Two March 16 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:13 EST
Nintendorks.com finished off their Perfect Dark impressions from the GDC. Finally some new info surfaced from them including the list of cheats which are now categorized by Rare (i.e. gamplay cheats, co-op cheats, weapon cheats, etc.). The cheat list includes: DK Mode, Slo-mo Single Player, Small Characters, Invincible, Cloaking Device and lots more. 27 in all not including all the weapon cheats. Check it out here.
Hopefully by tonight we'll have about 8 or 9 sections updated including weapons, cheats, preview, movies, etc.
The 'Favorite PD Weapon' feature is coming along nicely. Keep those votes and ideas coming in to Matt@dataDyneHQ.com.
Nintendorks News March 15 - Updated
by Matt
@ 8:15 EST
Nintendorks got more info then IGN about PD from the Game Developers Conference. They talked about reloading animations, the great cutscenes, creative levels, and the fact that when you steal a guards weapon they yell, "Hey, my gun!". Well how about you go check it out for yourself by clicking here.
What's Your Favorite PD Weapon? March 14 - Updated
by Matt
@ 7:31 EST
I'm going to do a feature asking: What's your favorite Perfect Dark weapon? You can send in your favorite PD weapons here. Also remember to state why it's your favorite and you can also include how you'd change that weapon and/or your own created weapons (we'll take drawn or computer generated pictures of it). You'll get credit for your creative gun.

Our hosted site, Rareweb, has published over twenty never before seen Perfect Dark screenshots. The new shots include pictures of the hoverbike, menu screens, plenty of aliens, and the N-Bomb in action. Click here to check 'em out now! You won't find them anywhere else.
Counter-Op Report March 13 - Updated
by Matt
@ 10:30 EST
IGN64 reports on the Counter-Op feature in Perfect Dark. No real new info. They did comment though on how bad the framerate suffers when in a room that is full with baddies and guns a blazing. They also said that the framerate issue will be most likely completely fixed when May 22nd rolls along.

Fan Art Contest March 13 - Updated
by Tweek
@ 5:58 EST
Ok, I've got some more artwork in, so things are good to go for the Fan Art contest. To win a Prima Strategy guide, just send some PD art to Tweekbefore Saturday when the site's visitors will vote on the winner. So, if you've got a nice PD pic, send it to us now... the only PD site where you can win prizes for your art!
Anyway, check out the Top 120 PD Sites, and check out this... "interesting" email I got today:
"Yo,
Me and my friend are so stuck on the seventh level. We passed the skiing part but we're stuck. Think ya can help us out by giving us a few codes?"
If you e-mailed me a while back and I did not reply then please send it again. Somehow about eight e-mails didn't get to my inbox so if you want you can send them again. Sorry about that. Thanks.
Another new weapon! March 11 - Updated
by Tom
@ 9:43 EST
Another weapon has been announced acording to Rarenet, the N-Bomb, a mini nuke. Interesting. Have a look here.
Also if anyone out there is interested in workin on a Dolphin site, then please email me with the position you are interested in, background experience and profile.
IGN's latest info March 11 - Updated
by Tom
@ 5:50 EST
IGN have said that Perfect Dark has an improved frame rate over the last time they saw it.
Also they mentioned the Dolphin, saying that Nintendo was making all the same mistakes as they did for the N64, if they don't shape up, then we are going to end up with a powerful system and no developers apart from Rare!
The Pinball Mine is a mine that will bounce continuously until it hits someone nearby then it explodes! The Laser is a powerful weapon used to cut through doors and possibly walls, alot like Bond's wrist watch. Thanks to Edge magazine for this info. I'll update the weapons section soon with virtually all the weapons.
The Fan Art has been updated with heaps of new art. We're giving away a prize to the best artist this month, so send us your work.
Topsites and Fan Art March 10 - Updated
by Tweek
@ 3:55 EST
Today I joined the Top 120 PD Sites , just to see what its like. If you vote for us heaps, we'll stay with it. I thought we needed a bit more of a challenge since we're whoopin' arse in the other Top PD sites, and I thank you for making us the first PD site to reach over 2000 votes.
An artist complained recently that I hadn't updated the fan art section. Well, this weekend I'll be updating it with at least 15 new pics, and in a week's time I'll be holding a poll where you can vote for the best artist, who will win a Prima Strategy Guide!
Lastly, I'd presonally like to congratulate Matt on his fine, enthusiastic work. He's giving you what I never had time for. Multiple daily updates, new previews... Anyway, I'm sure you've noticed as I have how good this site is now!
datadyne.com + Nintendo = Playable PD Demo! March 9 - Updated
by Matt
@ 5:57 EST
Check out Rarenet's mailbag where it states that datadyne.com is in fact a Nintendo site and that there will be a playable version of PD coming to almost all the Universitys in the U.S. and Universitys only because of the "M" rating. Now hopefully I don't have to hear anything else about datadyne.com, it's kinda getting old.
Another DataDyne Site! March 9 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:04 EST
Another Data Dyne site has surfaced! Click here (datadynecorporation.com) to check it out. Geez... Data Dyne must be a popular name or something.
IGN64 proves that Rare and Nintendo have nothing to do with datadyne.com in this article. Of course we already covered this issue yesterday. Check it out if you have nothing better to do.
'All Bonds' Cheat March 8 - Updated
by Matt
@ 7:37 EST
One of our readers has stated that Rare has put the 'All Bonds' cheat - which was rumored to be in Goldeneye - in Perfect Dark. This is not confirmed but possible since Rare might still have the Bond license from MGM. This news apparently came from one of Rare's members on the PD team. Once again this has not been officially confirmed by Rare or Nintendo but we will find out more.
Multiplayer section March 8 - Updated
by Matt
@ 2:11 EST
A lost section has been reborn, the multiplayer section is back with all the latest info. Take a look here!
More DataDyne Stuff March 7 - Updated
by Matt
@ 10:16 EST
This datadyne.com stuff may be getting old but why not say it. Datadyne.com is not a Rare site, I still see people saying it is. Follow this link and see that the truck has the words DATADYNE plastered all over it, and millions of dates for its "tour". It's just a coincidence that the company's called DataDyne.
Velvet Dark Confirmed March 7 - Updated
by Matt
@ 9:37 EST
Thanks to Nintendojo's In-focus we now have confirmation that Velvet Dark is in fact Joanna's sister. We all heard about this a while ago and we all had different opinions on this subject, but why would Rare register velvetdark.com? We will soon find out...
Will PD be the Deciding Factor of Nintendo 64's Death? March 6 - Updated
by Matt
@ 4:34 EST
I recently read in a unnamed multi-console magazine, *cough* *cough* EGM, that many people think that the N64 will die after the anticipated release of Perfect Dark. I personally think that the N64 will stay alive and kickin' until the Dolphin surfaces, then it will slowly fade into the dark. With future N64 game releases spanning almost all of 2000 like Starcraft, San Francisco Rush 2049, Carmageddon 64, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Banjo-Tooie, and of course Perfect Dark the N64 will most likely not fade this year.
Is Perfect Dark's success going to be the main factor of N64's life? Post your views in the forum.
More Mag Mumbo Jumbo March 6 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:25 EST
In the latest issue of the console version of Incite is a page, that's right one page about Perfect Dark. Incite does bring up a question, will Perfect Dark overcome Goldeneye's sales even though it's not a Bond Game? Hell ya. When it comes down to the bare bone it's gameplay that shines, not licenses, and Perfect Dark has that. Other than that no new info, no new pics, nothing else. But wait! Tips & Tricks has even less info on PD. Just a little paragraph about features, multiplayer options, etc., again nothing new. But these magazines are the March issue that's why EGM was the only mag to have Perfect Dark on the cover because it was April's issue. So expect some nice cover stories about Perfect Dark next month, including Nintendo Power.
You might be asking, why a PD cover story for the April issue? Isn't it being released in May? Well all the mags that I've seen didn't say anything about the May 22nd delay and most likely the text in the April issues is already done so they just can't cancel a whole shipment of magazines because of a release flaw. Besides, a whole lot isn't going to change with PD between April and May, just framerate problems and text additions, (and maybe even graphical changes for you German fans out there) so the April mags might still be up to date.
In the March issue of Nintendo Power there is a contest where you and 9 others can win a Smoke colored Nintendo 64 with a polished copy of Perfect Dark. You do need to be 18 or older to enter because of Perfect Dark's "M" rating, or under 18 unless of course you have written consent of a parent or guardian. Contest ends March 31st, 2000, so go pick up a copy of NP and enter!
Also if you haven't already noticed by the date of update it used to say "Updated by Cloud" it now says "Updated by Matt". It's the same person, just changed my name.
Sorry to bombard you with all this info, but I found a page which links to dataydne.com, bcdonline.com/1385/. They seem to also link to other computer specialists. IGN have entered the topic as well, have a look.
Well many people are saying that the site is by Rare, but I think differently.
I have managed to find that dataydne.com was registered by www.marksmen.com, a person by the name of Ken Taylor. They investigate buisnesses. They are discreet, confidential and relentless in [their] pursuit of information vital to business decisions. Many people have contacted him, and he was apparently upset at how people got the number (818-637-****).
When told it was found a WHOIS, he said that there was a mistake, that he had not registered any domain. But a WHOIS on the domain clearly shows it is him. If you do one on datadynehq.com it shows our host n64shooters. And why would Rare do that? Hope I have got you thinking. Give this guy a call if you like.
Also isn't it strange that www.datadyne.com doesn't actually say what they do, just that they are best at it? Hmmm.
Perfectdark.com March 4 - Updated
by Tweek
@ 4:20 EST
Nintendo's official Perfect Dark site finally has something on it. Check out Perfectdark.com to see for yourself.
I just got the March issue of Nintendo Power. A disappointment though, all old news to us, but there is alot of new screen shots that NP got a hold of, like the N-Bomb, Psychosis gun, Twin Falcons with scopes, and a Maian SMG picture. I might upload them soon.
One new piece of info, for the multiplayer game "Hold the Briefcase", which is Goldeneye's flag tag, the player who finds and carries the briefcase for more then 30 seconds gets a point so the player with the most points at the end of the round wins. More on the multiplayer options soon.
Set in the South American jungle Joanna must chase down ememy cyborgs and destory a robot factory. It has two player deathmatching, speech and brilliant FMV scenes, infrared and printer support, rumble cart and a feature that by beating PD GBC you can open up modes on Perfect Dark GBC's sister game for the N64 via the transer pak and vice versa. (Note: Transfer pak is NOT included in Perfect Dark for the N64)
Bits & Bytes March 3 - Updated
by Cloud
@ 7:41 EST
I just got my hands on the latest copy of EGM (April 2000) which features 8 pages of Perfect Dark glory. I'll fill you in on some of the interesting features that Perfect Dark has to offer.
1. Single/Co-op/Counter-operative missions
- If you don't have a friend with you to play Co-op just send in a bot. They can not complete the mission or it's objectives but they can help to clear thick walls of guards. - In Counter-operative the enemy can take a suicide pill to become the closest guy to Joanna if she gets very far ahead. - Perfect Dark will offer 3 difficulty levels: Agent, Secret Agent, and Perfect Agent. - With the different difficulty levels Joanna will start off in a different part of the level with a different role. For example, in the villa mission on Secret Agent you might start of on the mountian top sniping off guys before they kill the hostage negotiator, on Perfect Agent you start off as the negotiator. - Play the shooting range option to test out some of PD's weapons.
2. Multiplayer
- There are 12 bots (simulants) such as Predatorsim and Rocketsim. - 19 levels including 3 Goldeneye classics. Although Ken Lobb says "I guarantee after you play for a while you'll realize those three are the worst... the other 16 are better" - Combat Simulator with an Advanced Setup where you can make you own deathmatch scenarios. (more about that in an upcoming article)
That is just some of the creative features presented in Perfect Dark. A full preview and articles with everything you need to know is coming soon.
Perfect Dark is Completed March 2 - Updated
by Cloud
@ 5:15 EST
Hey I'm Matt and I'll be helping Tom and Tweek around the site now. Look forward to daily updates.
Our hosted site Rareweb (rareweb.datadynehq.com) has told us that french translators have started translating the finished copy of Perfect Dark. The security is so tight that the translators can't even play the game, just translate.
The "DATADYNE" corporation (www.datadyne.com) has it's website open to the public now. Obviously it is a Rare made site. "Deoxyribonucleic Acid Examination", why do they need Deoxyribonucleic acid examinations? Aren't they only a technology driven company? "Representatives will also be touring North America looking for suitable recruits soon." Recruits? For what, Deoxyribonucleic acid examinations? Ya, right.
Rare might change Perfect Dark around to suit the German audiences. Not any big changes though just graphics additions, other then that it'll be the same game.
I've been sent quite a few submissions for the fan art contest. We're giving away multiple Prima Strategy Guides and the chance to be famous to the best artists, whose art will be published not only on this site but also on Primagames's Official site (seen by over twenty-five thousand different people a day)... So with prizes like these, why would you send your work anywhere else? Send your work to tweek@dataydnehq.comnow!
Gameboy screenshots March 1 - Updated
by Tom
@ 1:27 EST
Rare have put out some new screenshots on one of their latest gameboy games, PDGB. Have a look here.
Incoming transmission from 2000…
I built this site when I was 12, with some online friends. We took Perfect Dark very seriously.
Restored for nostalgia. Some links are dead. The enthusiasm remains.
Please don’t enter the competitions. February 2000 has been and gone.
