No German Perfect Dark?
February 26 - Updated by
Mike @ 4:42 EST

Hi, this is Mike Schneider here of n64shooters.com, and also of Goldeneye HQ. I'm going to be lending a hand to Tweek in the coming months.

Anyway, pdark.com today reported that German magazine "Total" stated that Perfect Dark will NOT be coming out in Germany. To add my own thoughts to this, it unfortunately is likely to be true... The German government only allowed the original Turok to be in the country when Acclaim changed all the dinosaurs to robots, and so, if Rare doesn't make these changes, PD will likely be condemned as too violent in Germany. German government does not allow any killing of humans or animals to take place in games within their country.

What is datadyne.com?
February 26 - Updated by
Tweek @ 12:25 EST

What is datadyne.com? Well don't ask me. I personally think that its purely coincidental. Many people emailed me asking what datadyne.com was all about after seeing an ad in newspapers in Ohio. The ad apparently said something aong the lines of, "Looking for trustworthy, intelligent people to work in our global electronics company" but at the end said, "Must have ability to work under pressure and have good self defense skills."

Interesting. Is the dataDyne Corporation from Perfect Dark forming in the year 2000? I don't think so.

Tweek @ 3:56 EST

During March we'll be giving away two Prima Strategy Guides to the writer of the best editorial/feature/preview on any PD-related topic. Just send your masterpiece to tweek@datadynehq.com before March 16, 2000. The winner's article will be published on the site, as well as any other good articles by the runners-up (providing we have permission to use them). I'll soon update the contests page with more detailed info, but you may as well get started now.

Things are Looking Up!
February 23 - Updated by
Tweek @ 4:15 EST

Well, after a couple of weeks of poor dedication from Tom and myself, we're finally back in business. We now have a new system which allows our staff to login and update news, making it a much easier and quicker process. It also guarantees that this site will be updated more often by different people. If you'd like to be one of the people that updates news, or if you want to have any job on the site, email me.

UK and Europe release date
February 23 - Updated by
Tom @ 1:56 EST

If you, like me live in a country that uses PAL (ie. New Zealand, UK, Australia) then you have to wait a bit longer than the US version release date, Rare and Nintedo confirmed that it is the 30th June 2000. It's only a month longer than the US date (22 May 2000) but, man is that going to be the longest month of my life!!

Delayed Again!
February 16 - Updated by Tweek @ 3:42am EST

Nintendo has announced that Perfect Dark has been delayed until the 22nd of May, 2000. Here's what Nintendo had to say: "Both Rare and Nintendo are committed to only releasing the highest quality products and this extra development time will allow the game to be everything Nintendo 64 owners have come to expect."

This news is 100% true, and although it may be frustrating, the delay is for the best. Rare simply needs more time to make their game "Perfect".

By the way, while you take in this somewhat surprising news, head over to our forums, and make sure you check back tomorrow for the contest winners!

I Need Help!
February 12 - Updated by Tweek @ 10:32am EST

I'm aware that this site is lacking content and regularly updated news, but I no longer have the time or enthu
siasm to run this site single handedly. I really need to have a good solid staff like other PD sites before the game's release. I won't be able to run this site by myself after the game's release, so I'm looking for people to take over my position as the lead webmaster of dataDyne HQ. Already we have people interested in writing, doing the mailbag, and updating news, but no one really stands out as a future dataDyne HQ webmaster. If you're interested, please email tweek@datadynehq.com to apply as webmaster, news guy, a writer, or anything else you can think of as soon as possible.

On a side note, newsletter subscribers should check their mail for the latest contest info.

New PD Info and Screens
February 4 - Updated by Tweek @ 3:45am EST

There's heaps of new PD info and screens from the Nintendo Gamer's Summit. The co-op mode reinstallation and the cancelled face-mapping is confirmed, as is the 4 humans + 8 bots simultaneous in multiplayer. The expansion pack won't be required to play PD, but it is highly reccomended that you use one (for things such as the high-res mode and the maximum number of bots in multiplay).

For detailed information and more news, visit the following sites:

We'll soon incorporate the new information into our various sections, but until now make sure you visit the above links.

Goodbye face-mapping, Hello Co-op
February 3 - Updated by Tweek @ 2:27am EST

If I could only have one of the two in Perfect Dark, face-mapping and co-op, I'd definitely pick the latter. And luckily I've been given what I wanted. The recent announcements that the face-mapping feature has been cancelled and the co-op mode has been reinstalled has been confirmed. I don't want to make promises (after a year and a half I've announced the co-op mode's cancellation three times), but it's apparently true. Nintendo didn't like the idea that you'd be shooting against your family and friends in PD. I think this is pretty ridiculous, since I'd rather my own brother shooting me in a videogame than in real life, but it's just the way it goes. The main thing is that we've got the two player co-operative mode back, right?

In other multiplayer news, it's now rumoured that you'll be able to play with four humans and eight bots in the deathmatch mode!

Plus, there'll be heaps of new PD info released from the Nintendo Gamer's Summit show later today.

Lastly, I want you to know that I'm exteremly busy this year, and unless I can find someone who wants to be a co-webmaster on the site, I may even have to close it down, which is something I really don't want to see happening. Email me if you're interested.

Incoming transmission from 2000…

I built this site when I was 12, with some online friends. We took Perfect Dark very seriously.

Restored for nostalgia. Some links are dead. The enthusiasm remains.

Please don’t enter the competitions. February 2000 has been and gone.
