Weapons Update...Soon May 31 - Updated
by Matt
@ 1:36 EST
Sorry for the lack of updates from me lately but I've been away from my computer for a while. The popular Perfect Dark ActiveList is down for an unknown reason, hopefully it'll be up soon. Since I am using a different computer for the next week I cannot update the already out-dated weapons section, but that'll come soon enough. Meanwhile check out IGN64's letter section and Q&A section for some Perfect Dark information.

Also, about the official Perfect Dark site, http://www.perfectdark.com, I couldn't get into it at first, but then it suddenly came right the next day, and then it wouldn't load anything, so I right clicked and pressed play, and the entire stie came to life. Once it is all loaded, it is quite fantastic to navigate in, but don't go there when the internet is having a slightly slower day.
The Complete Cheese List May 26 - Updated
by Matt
@ 7:13 EST
About an hour after the update about IGN's Cheese List a Perfect Dark fan sent me the complete list. WARNING: This could be considered a spoiler so reader beware. Here is the list:
Level 1 - Hidden on the 5th floor. Level 2 - Near experiment CPU. Level 3 - 4th floor near the Dragon. Level 4 - In the cellar near one of the exits. Level 5 - In a toilet in the Punk Pond bar. Level 6 - Near the Damping Field Generator. Level 7 - There is no cheese on this stage. No, there really isn't, even the guides don't list one in level 7. Level 8 - Near shortcut to locker room. Level 9 - In an empty and useless room shaped like this: [[ ]] Level 10 - In the area past the uniform. Level 11 - Near the back of the lower deck. Level 12 - Hidden in the area behind the Medical Scanner. Level 13 - Can't miss it, hallway, next to the first room you see. Level 14 - Right in front of the start! Level 15 - Behind the door that was always locked before this mission (behind the Skedar w/Mauler). Level 16 - Behind a Skedar to the right of the Callisto, well, generally. Level 17 - Next to the Shield (only there in A/SA) at the end of dead end tunnel (head the WRONG way at the start).
Thanks to Justin Raby, Finder of Cheesy Things.
Another Set of First Impressions May 26 - Updated
by Brahe
@ 2:00 EST
Ah... The real world. I've been playing PD for two days, and can finally drag myself away from my set to write up some impressions.
1) SubDrag had it right- there is a slight pause between selecting missions and the opening movie. It isn't very long, but it does get annoying when you need to restart many times in a row. 2) The voices are incredible! All the screams, whimpers, in-combat shouting, and other audio candy are really top-notch. I was shot in the back once, and as my screen turned red, I heard someone laughing at me. 3) Multiplayer: If you want to do the Challenges, bring some friends! Many times, it's "human vs. simulants"; of course, if you're the only human, you're sunk. Also, some Sims are incredibly tough to beat (CheetahSim in Challenge 16). 4) Weapons: Man, oh man. What fun. The guns are very impressive (possibly except in multi, where you can take 2 hits to the body and die from the equivalent of the KF7), and they all sound wonderful.
That's it for now. I'm writing the Agent strategy guide at the moment, since I've just finished Special Agent to see the difference between the difficulties.
Get on the IGN Cheese List May 26 - Updated
by Matt
@ 9:53 EST
IGN64 is having a kind of contest where if you find a piece of cheese in any level of Perfect Dark send in the location and IGN will put it in their Cheese List. If you're the first person to find all the pieces of cheese spanning throughout all of the levels then they'll print your first name in the Perfect Dark guide over at IGNGuides. You really don't win anything, just recognition.
I just received my Arena today, thanks to Competitive Systems. In case you don't know, the Arena is a creatively-designed peripheral for your TV which can divide your screen into two, three, and even four sections, each blocked off by a wall so now you can play Perfect Dark without human players knowing that you're really sniping them off with the Farsight. I'll have the review up soon.
ThePDSite.com is having a great contest where you could win one of two Perfect Dark strategy guides! All you have to do is create a great PD review. Go to ThePDSite.com for the full rules and details.
Also, I created an ICQ AcitveList based on Perfect Dark. An ActiveList is a where (if you add yourself to it) you can talk to other Perfect Dark fans in a chat, post a topic in the message board or read the 'Perfect Dark Tip of the Day' all using ICQ. To join the list click on the ICQ button, then click on 'Add/Invite Users', then click on 'Find/Add An ICQ ActiveList'. The ID# for the ActiveList is 75388310. If you don't have ICQ go here to get it: www.icq.com. If you have any questions or comments e-mail me or message me using ICQ. My ICQ number is 73809706.
Meet the Real Joanna Dark May 25 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:43 EST
Yesterday at a local EB in Santa Monica, California, lovely secret agent Joanna Dark was present to handout ten copies of PD. If you were one of the lucky ten then we should all praise you...okay maybe not. Go to IGN64.com for more details and a picture of sexy Joanna.
One more thing, our forums are rapidly growing with more and more members each day. So why don't you stop by and post a topic or two.
Open 24 Hours A Day May 25 - Updated
by Matt
@ 11:13 EST
PerfectDark.com is ready and open for business. Being a Flash heavy site it is pure eye-candy, well Joanna is anyway. She always has a firm grasp on really big guns, pointing them and smiling. Oh ya, there's some information there too but I really didn't notice that considering Joanna's pretty distracting. One thing I noticed though, is their scenario section, there aren't too many scenarios but the ones that they have are nothing compared to ours.
I can assure you that we will have them up soon, but we feel that we would like to play the game a little more and then start to do our guides, some sites *COUGH* *COUGH* have chosen to rush out some guides, I feel this is stupid as we need time to write proper walkthroughs.
I remember when I started to play GE I did the entire thing on agent without any help, then secret agent, and I needed some tips for 00 agent :). But the thrill of completing the game wihtout any cheats, or any walkthroughs is extreamly rewarding. Thats why I love PD and GE so much, because of there "earning cheats" system, it gives the game so much more replay value (not that PD does'nt have enough), than going, tap, tap, and getting Invincability.
But it is our duty as a PD site to provide you with all the cheats, walkthroughs and any other similar stuff, but I urge you to make a go of PD without help, it makes it so much more fun. But for those that need help already, IGN have written an excellent guide, not only walkthroughs but just about every aspect of the game, from tips to story line. I do suggest the Tips n' Tricks section, this is great for the PD player, everyone needs to improve there technique every once and a while. So you can go here if you want to see the ultimate guide to PD, but remember, give the levels decent attempts before resorting to the walkthrough section.
So how are you all at Perfect Dark, you really don't know how lucky you are to have the game. Little Johnny down the road forgot to preorder and now he is crying like a little girl because he missed out. Hopefully you are not in the same position as Little Johnny. I hope you are all having fun becasue that is what PD is all about.
Second of all, there has been some speculation at the release date for New Zealand, well I can confirm that Perfect Dark will hit New Zealand shelves on the 16th of June that is 16 days to go. Same with the Austrlian release, the 16th of June. I feel genuinley sorry to all the UK fans. I think it sucks that the country behind this superb game must wait the longest. If I was head of Rare then I can assure you that the PAL release would be out before the NTSC.
I am so excited, I actually have learnt some stuff over the past few days that I did not know about PD.But I have one question for those that have it, When you go to the pause menu, can you still get shot as you go into it? This was one of my biggest pisse of things on my Goldeneye 007 list. You could always get shot as you were pausing.
I finally was able to play my copy of Perfect Dark for about...9 hours. I now have come to the conclusion that I have no life thanks to Perfect Dark. I really only played the multiplayer which didn't slow down a bit and the Solo missions were complete nostalgia. I'll tell you more about it later, but now I must go and kick that PerfectSim's ass!
Nintendo's Wave May 23 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:30 EST
Nintendo just handed out a .wav file featuring Joanna's beautiful voice reminding us about our 'mission' May 22nd (today). It's worth a listen. The .wav is about 2.28MB and you need Winamp to hear it.
PDCentral's PD Review May 22 - Updated
by Matt
@ 8:20 EST
PDCentral just finished their great Perfect Dark review. 10/10 isn't bad, it isn't bad at all...
Hi there readers! I'm Brahe, and I'll be handling an opinion section and helping to create the single-player strategy guide - which generally means that you'll be hearing me raving a great deal. I'll write editorials and other random thoughts on all things PD. The section will be up as soon as I figure out where to put it. I won't be getting PD until Wednesday, so I'm alternately hopping in anticipation and screaming at Best Buy's shipping agreements, but rest assured that once I get my paws on it I'll be writing when I'm not playing.
Finally Perfect Dark is released. Tweek pretty much summed everything I wanted say (damn bastard!). Just kidding... Anyway I would like to remind all of you that dataDyneHQ will be one of the few Perfect Dark sites that will stay alive well past it's release. The forums will be a popular section as will our web-famous PD multiplayer scenarios made by you, the reader. Our walkthrough should be the most impressive ever seen to help you through all those really tight spots. Once again remember, dataDyneHQ.com will continue to bring the best and most Perfect Dark information on the 'net.
Perfect Dark: The wait is over May 22 - Updated
by Tom
@ 6:04 EST
After waiting out the multiple delays, and following all the Perfect Dark sites all around the world, the time has come. For those who don't know what time that is, you can get lost because every person should no that today is when Perfect Dark, for Nintendo 64, has been released.
I hope that all our dedicated followers will continue to check our site for all the latest cheats, walkthroughs and every possible PD info.
So what more can I say?
Prehaps that you should all enjoy every moment of PD, for I must wait another 3 weeks. Like Tweek said, check out the forums, make sure you post all your PD impressions, and don't be afraid to ask for help on the levels, that is what the forums are for.
I would like to thank Rare for creating the best darn game in the world, for all you PSX lovers out there, enjoy your Square rip offs, but there will never be another game like Perfect Dark.
Perfect Dark Released! May 22 - Updated
by Tweek
@ 5:18 EST
Well, what can I say...? It's been a long wait. But finally, after two years of running this site and following the game's progress, the time to actually announce Perfect Dark's release has come.
I'll tell you now that the forums will be probably the most useful source of Perfect Dark info from now on. For example, if you're stuck on a mission, or you just need some help, post a message a you're guaranteed to get a response within minutes. So get in there now and start posting your PD impressions!
Anyway, if I don't sound very excited yet it's because I have to wait a few more weeks to get my copy of the game, like everyone else in the rest of the world. I hope you Americans enjoy yourselves... bastards (Just kidding).

Perfect Dark ROM? May 21 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:14 EST
A Perfect Dark ROM has recently been discovered which, for the obvious reasons, should not be download/played. One being mainly because it does not work, the second being because it is in fact illegal. Why would you wanna play it on the computer anyway? Frequent crashes and bad multiplayer are enough to say, "I'm buying it for the 64!".
More Reviews! May 21 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:00 EST
As the release of Perfect Dark draws closer, more and more reviews have surfaced. The most recent ones are as follows:
- Daily Radar Direct hit - CVG 5/5 - GameFan 90/100 - Rarenet 10/10
Great news for us Kiwis (New Zealanders) and Australians, the PD release date for us has been put back to the 16th of June, thats right, a whole weeek! I personally can't wait, and I do suggest you check out IGN, they have some excellent articles there on all things PD! Go to www.ign64.com. Happy PD playing.
Finally, IGN64 reviewed the masterpiece Perfect Dark, giving it a 9.8 which is pretty damn good. The framerate problem was the only score deduction. Don't worry though, this is what IGN64 had to say about the framerate, "Most of the time you're so caught up in the game that you don't notice it, and when you do, you're willing to forgive it as Perfect Dark is just too much fun to dwell on such an issue." There you have it, Perfect Dark is perfect, well perfect in my eyes anyway.
2 days left. Mmmm... I can taste it!
Perfect Dark vs. GoldenEye May 19 - Updated

@ 12:31 EST
Round one of IGN64'sPerfect Dark vs. GoldenEye comparison has already started. The round is based on the GoldenEye multiplayer levels compared to the redone Perfect Dark ones. It's very interesting indeed... Go check it out.
Perfect Dark Confusion May 18 - Updated
by Matt
@ 11:50 EST
Recently rumors surfaced about another delay but this time only by a week. Nintendo commented on this issue stating that Perfect Dark might not be released on May 22nd depending on when the stores want to release them. The latest it will arrive is May 24th.
Hi everyone! May 18 - Updated
by SubDrag
@ 5:15 EST
Hi loyal dataDyne HQ readers. This is SubDrag and I'm going to create the cheats page (GameShark and normal) and maybe a beta page. You may have seen me at gscentral or my beta goldeneye page at http://goldeneye.ga64.com/beta.htm
I hope to get the very best information and pictures for you. Expect a lot from me once the game is out.
For all of you who don't know yet the "Car Park" scenario is really not a scenario, it's just a fairly open multiplayer map. Here's some info and a map for it: Car Park. Thanks to Perfectly Dark for this.
IGN64.com just released seven new Perfect Dark videos that should be looked at. The first one called, "A Vision at Night" which shows the use of the night-vision goggles. "Day for an X-ray" is a video displaying Joanna using her X-ray vision to detect secret openings. The third video, "Back to the Lab" is showing the process of attempting to rescue an alien from a dataDyne lab. The fourth video, "P vs. A" shows the Counter-Operative mode. "Back to the Temple" is a multiplayer clip of the Goldeneye classic, The Temple. The sixth video, "Beauty of Cinema" is a huge clip of the cinema where Joanna finds the alien she was looking for. Last but not least, "Snow Good" is a clip of the level that looks a lot like the Surface from Goldeneye, instead it's the crash site of Air Force One where you must find the President in the wreckage.
Finally I got around to quickly compiling a document with some new PD info that was sent to me by the webmaster at Nintendo Graphics. There's Sim info, all weapons and 2nd functions, all missions and more! Some of the info is already in the multiplayer section, I left it in there just in case you haven't seen it in the multiplayer section... Go check it out NOW! I'll update the site with it soon.
We're in desperate need of staff members so Tom and I have devised a "recruitment" program, if you will. Well not really, but check out this page for a detailed list of what we're looking for, then email Tom. All the details you need are right here.

Silver Cartridge May 12 - Updated
by Tom
@ 8:19 EST

PD GBC E3 Impressions May 12 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:02 EST
IGN Pocket wrote up a nice little bit about the hands-on impressions of PD GBC. Even though the game still has about six months of development left it still was incredible. Read more about it.
Nintendo released some new pics from E3 here that you might want to look at. Most of them are old besides the one of the Villa and the nice one of the crossbow.
I am looking for some layout ideas for a web site on, The world is not enough. This looks to be a great game, and it would make a great site, want to come up with some ideas? If you do email Me . If yours is chosen you will have full credit and a position on the site. Have fun.
Interview Is Fake! May 10 - Updated
by Matt
@ 10:36 EST
PD64.com's interview is in fact a fake. It's not Hitman's fault though. A sick freak decided to pull a cheap-ass prank and will pay for it, oh yes, he will. I even feel cheated somehow. He tested my faith in Hitman's trustfulness, which I shouldn't have even really questioned that anyway. Now hopefully everything is back to normal with Hitman and we can get on with the Perfect Dark mania. E3 is ahead so check back here for a whole pile of E3 info, thanks to our friends at N64Shooters.com who are actually going to E3.
I would like to comment on the whole interview deal over at PD64.com. As you may or may not know, accusations have been thrown at PD64.com stating that their latest interview with David Doak was a hoax. Well I can assure you it isn't. I'd like to say I know Hitman and that he wouldn't do something like that. If it was fake and he was planning the whole thing don't you think he would have "said" he interviewed someone currently on the PD team and possibly make up all this false information to get readers coming back for more? Instead he interviewed an ex-Rare employee and didn't make up any news, yet we still come back for more because PD64.com is a great, informative and truthful site. He wouldn't make something up knowing that his visitors aren't idiots and will figure out it's fake. Now, I'm not against PerfectlyDark.com, I myself have not received an e-mail from any Rare employee as of yet stating these accusations. But with the proof that Hitman gave, I have yet to believe that his interview is fake.
Backdrop and some quotes May 9 - Updated
by Tom
@ 12:59 EST
Well, on a regular check of Rare's site I managed to find deeply hidden away at the bottom of the main page a link to a Perfect Dark background, looks kinda cool, sort of a mixture of screens from different stages of the game, anywho I took the liberty of uploading it to our servers so click here if ya want it.
Also there were some qoutes I also got, something to keep you busy while waiting those final days.
"Was it worth the epic wait you say? Can any game truly be worth sitting on your hands for months on end? Well like the finest of wines this game has aged to full maturity and yes it was more than worth the cascade of hype that preceded it!" - Total Games Network (98%)
"What you've got in Perfect Dark is basically the best game that is ever going to come out for the N64. Oh, so there's a new Bond game on the way and another Zelda title but if they can even come anywhere close to holding a candle to this one... well we'll be very surprised indeed!" - 64 Magazine (99%)
BTW any of you going to E3, if you could take a few pictures of Joanna (The model) for me that would be great. :) Seriously, if you are going could you give me an email (Click on my name at the top of the message).
Graphical Artists? May 8 - Updated
by Matt
@ 6:48 EST
Sorry about the dead link with the MP3 yesterday, hopefully this MP3 will work. Next-Generation just reviewed Perfect Dark and gave it a pretty good score of 4/5, which is 80%. Looks like Perfect Dark has a bright future ahead of it.
On an unrelated matter, I'm creating a Dinosaur Planet site and I was wondering if there are any incredibly talented artists out there who can create a magnificently beautiful layout. The layout must be bright, colorful, creative, clever and with a witty design. If your layout follows this criteria then I will use it on my site, and you could have the option of being on the staff. If the layout is the most creative and colorful thing that I have seen ever then expect to be paid. Layouts must have some Dinosaur Planet pictures, a right bar and left bar, top bar that borders an advertisement and, if you want, a bottom border. E-mail the layout which will probably be 2-4 images (depends how you design it) to Matt@dataDyneHQ.com.
A Perfect Dark advertisement has been released, want to have a look, then click here. Thanks to www.pdark.com for this one.
Perfect Dark MP3 May 7 - Updated

More Interviews! May 6 - Updated

@ 8:24 EST
PD64.com just interviewed former Rare employee and Goldeneye extra, David Doak. Rarenet also has a 3-page interview with the PD team. There is really no new info in either interview but it is a great read.
Some great Perfect Dark GBC Info May 6 - Updated

The hosted sites section now has descriptions of our hosted sites. The links section is now full of new Perfect Dark links. We updated our affiliates section with more descriptions and last but not least, I put up my lengthly preview to replace Nintendo Power's. And The Winners Are... May 4 - Updated
by Matt
@ 5:20 EST
I just drew the 10 lucky winners of the largest Perfect Dark contest on the 'net. With no further delays, the winners are: Jake Muir Lance Guerra Mike Schatz Chris Taylor Brendan Webb Darryl Hansen Noel Bauer Mike Laird Brian Shaw and... Jim Serbu! Congratulations to everyone who won! The award for the "Most Quickly Disqualified Person" has to go out to John Polkinghorne for sending me a whooping 70+ entries at once. I would just like to say one more thing. To all of you who stayed up in all those chat rooms well past 2AM just so you could be the first to enter the contest even though you didn't win, we know who some of the true PD fans are. I'm currently writing up all 48 entries that were in the draw now so you can go check them out later.
I'm also now doing the mailbag so if you have any questions e-mail me and I'll be sure to answer them and maybe even put them in the next mailbag tonight.
Massive Multiplayer Update! May 4 - Updated

@ 3:51 EST
We just updated our multiplayer section with heaps of Perfect Dark info. We now have the biggest, most comprehensive mulitplayer section on the 'net! Include the one-of-a-kind scenarios section with ten more of YOUR scenarios. Go check it out.
I finally got the FTP thing going so now expect everything updated to it's fullest.
The Contest Is Now Officially Over May 4 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:16 EST
The contest is now officially over. I won’t be entering anymore e-mails from now on. Thanks to the 1000+ who sent in their entries, Il announce the winners in about 15 hours (I have to sleep and go to school you know!).
I forgot to tell you about one of the new simulants called the “JusticeSim”. It hunts the player who’s winning to make everyone have a semi-fair chance of winning, and if your friends really bite anyway a JusticeSim will give you a challenge.
I finally got my copy of Nintendo Power and boy does it ever have good Perfect Dark stuff in it! Just some bits and pieces for you in case you didn't know: - There are 18 simulants - The PasifistSim is now known as PeaceSim - The KamikazeSim is now known as KaziSim - There are 7 scenarios to choose from, like Capture the Case and King of the Hill. - 14 pre-set matches (check out Tuesday's update for more on that) - 6 different orders to use for friendly sims like attack, protect, defend. Also a new one in which the order depends on the game type like if you playing Capture the Case the "Special" order would be "Get the Case"
There's alot more info but I'll but all of that in the multiplayer section later.
The contest is still going on so keep those entries rollin'!
Send Entries In Now! May 3 - Updated
by Matt
@ 12:02 EST
It's is now 12:00 You can start sending in your entries! If you can't send your entry in now then send it in anytime! The first two e-mails from every hour will be entered to win Perfect Dark. Now everyone has a chance. Send entries to Matt@dataDyneHQ.com. Say it! I WANT PD!
In Perfect Dark news PDark.com just found out that Nintendo of UK dosen't even exist. They contacted someone at THE which said that The PAL version of Perfect Dark will ship on June 30th. Too bad.
Many of you who are participating in our Perfect Dark contest live in many different time zones, so we don't want to update at 4PM EST and have someone sleeping in a different time zone 'cause it's 1AM there and have them miss out on the contest. I will officially update at 12AM Eastern Time with the last letter AND within that update will be the phrase itself! So if you missed any letters during the past week this is your chance to still get the hidden phrase! The plan for people who cannot get to the computer at 12AM EST is that the first TWO people that e-mail the right answer in whatever hour they send the e-mail in will be entered. For example, if you get home at 3:50PM from school it's not too late to enter, get the e-mail ready and wait 'till it's exactly 4:00PM and press that send button! The 48 people who entered and were first at sending the right phrase for the hour in which they sent it will be entered in a draw to win Perfect Dark! I don't mean e-mail every hour just e-mail once and hope that's the fastest entry sent during that hour. I'll update in about 4 hours and 40 minutes from now. I'll have an update at 12AM on Thursday to announce the winners. Get it? Any questions e-mail me. Also, there is no bold letter in this update. Look for today's bold letter in "Multiplayer Info!" update.
In other PD news IGN64.com recently updated their site and included the game of the month for May. You guessed it, Perfect Dark is number 1 but it's tied with another great N64 game... What could it be? Find out.
Multiplayer Info! May 2 - Updated
by Matt
@ 6:07 EST
We just got this e-mail from TriplePly9 with tons of new multiplayer info. Here's just a bit of the new info to come. I'll update the multiplayer section with much more stuff. Here is the list of preset combat simulator modes: The Combat Simulator (multiplayer mode) contains 14 pre-set matches, including the ones you need to unlock. These multiplayer simulations are pre-determined in every area, and are for the lazy people who don't want to make up their own simulations, or who want to go to a quick match. By the way, you can save up to four custom simulations to your own on the Game Pak or Controller Pak. Of course, you may modify any of these pre-set matches to your own desires.
No Shield - No shields in the Skedar area. Weapons are Falcon, CMP150, Cyclone, MagSec4, and AR53. The match ends after 10 minutes or if someone scores 10 points.
Rocket Launcher - NOT Area 51, but Area 52 in this simulator. Main weapon is Rocket Launcher, but there is also the Dragon, and some others that are not mentioned. Have a blast. (haha)

And best of all we will get it 8 days before Europe, this is to distributors around the pacific. So to calirfy the American release will be in 22nd May. The Europe release will be in June 30th. And the Pacific release (Australia and New Zealand) will be in June 22nd. Happy waiting!
Perfect Dark's release date earlier? May 1 - Updated

"Our source from NUK tells us that we may be getting Perfect Dark 28 days earlier than expected (that's June 2). As you know, Nintendo are now in control, and they don't like releasing big titles together, and when THE were in full control of release dates, they put PD and Mario Party 2 togther in the same month, so Nintendo have delayed Mario Party 2 to June 30, and there is a 2% chance Nintendo will release the two on the same day, and 'supposidly' she tells me, 'Perfect Dark has switched release dates with Mario Party 2'." That's what our hosted site Rare Web heard from their source from Nintendo UK, let's hope it's true.
The UK magazine "64 Magazine" that I said in an earlier update has a great 10-page review was scanned a while back and posted in a message board. In case you haven't seen it here it is.
DATADYNE updated it's site with more info about the plot of Perfect Dark, take a look.
Incoming transmission from 2000…
I built this site when I was 12, with some online friends. We took Perfect Dark very seriously.
Restored for nostalgia. Some links are dead. The enthusiasm remains.
Please don’t enter the competitions. February 2000 has been and gone.
